MUMBAI, India, Jan. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511105136 A) filed by Manipal University, Jaipur, Rajasthan, on Oct. 31, 2025, for 'a system and method for dynamic carbon footprint calculation and verifiable provenance display for consumable goods via a distributed ledger.'
Inventor(s) include Mr. Birendra Kishore Roy; and Dr. Avishek Nandi.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a system and method for dynamic carbon footprint calculation and verifiable provenance display for consumable goods utilizes a permissioned distributed ledger for transparency and traceability. The system comprises modules for data acquisition, recipe aggregation, carbon calculation, and a consumer-facing interface. Verified suppliers input data via a digital portal, selecting farming methods, and IoT sensors capture real-time data like GPS location, temperature, and weight. Each product batch is recorded as a cryptographically signed, non-fungible digital asset. Transport events log route, vehicle type, and fuel source, which are used by a carbon engine referencing IPCC or GHG Protocol emissions factors. A smart contract engine logs transactions and triggers calculations based on ingredient-level usage via integration with kitchen management systems (KMS). Consumers access a mobile interface via QR code, showing the total carbon footprint, sustainability score, and blockchain-verified provenance data, including timestamped entries for each carbon contribution."
