MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531131441 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Patna, Bihar, on Dec. 24, 2025, for 'a system and method for direct current motor speed regulation using foid controller.'

Inventor(s) include Roy, Sreyashi; and Raja, G. Lloyds.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a system (100) and a method (800) for controlling speed of a direct current motor (102) using a Fractional-Order Integral-Derivative controller (106) optimized through Atom Search Optimization. Real-time motor speed is measured using one or more sensors (104) and provided as a feedback signal to the FOID controller (106). The FOID controller (106) executes a fractional-order proportional, integral, and derivative control law and internally performs Atom Search Optimization to adaptively tune FOID parameters. Multiple candidate parameter sets are generated, evaluated using performance indices such as Integral Absolute Error, Integral of Squared Error, and Integral of Time-weighted Absolute Error, and iteratively refined to select an optimal set. Interaction and constraint forces are computed to update candidate parameters during optimization. The optimized FOID parameters are applied to regulate armature voltage of the DC motor (102)."
