MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511132249 A) filed by Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun; and Graphic Era, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Dec. 26, 2025, for 'a system and method for blockchain-integrated ai-based energy optimization and occupancy detection in smart classrooms using cctv and iot.'
Inventor(s) include Surya Kant Chauhan; Sumit Kumar; Srishti Bhatt; Dr. Chandradeep Bhatt; and Dr. Anupam Singh.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system and method for optimizing energy consumption and detecting occupancy in smart classrooms is disclosed, wherein an environmental sensing module (comprising IoT sensors such as a DHT22 sensor, LDR, and BMP280/BME280 sensor) is coupled to an ESP32-S3 microcontroller for local processing, while an AI-based occupancy detection module utilizes CCTV cameras and an NVIDIA Jetson Nano running a YOLOv5 deep learning model for real-time occupant counting. Processed sensor and occupancy data are transmitted via a data transmission network module (using protocols such as MQTT and Kafka) to a blockchain integration module wherein blockchain nodes record cryptographic hashes with smart contracts, and energy optimization is achieved by a control unit adjusting fans, air conditioners, and lights."
