MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641037488 A) filed by Nagalingeswaran Ahilasamy, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on March 27, for 'a surgical instrument for reducing concha bullosa.'

Inventor(s) include Nagalingeswaran Ahilasamy.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention is related to a surgical instrument for reducing concha bullosa. this conchal crusher for concha bullosa is a surgical instrument designed for endoscopic sinus surgery in the field of rhinology. The device comprises an upper finger ring (101), lower finger ring (102), upper shaft (103), pivot joint/hinge screw (104), lower shaft (105), and smooth duckbill jaws (106). The jaws are atraumatic, non-serrated, and apply controlled compressive force to reduce concha bullosa without cutting or damaging mucosa. This enables bloodless reduction, preserves middle turbinate stability, maintains olfactory function, and prevents postoperative complications such as synechiae, crusting, destabilization, and iatrogenic frontal sinusitis. Unlike prior art methods such as conchoplasty or partial turbinectomy, which create raw mucosal surfaces and bleeding, this instrument maintains near-normal anatomy and physiology of nasal airflow. The crusher provides a single-instrument solution, reduces costs, improves surgeon satisfaction, reduces surgical time and enhances patient safety. It represents a technical advancement in endoscopic sinus surgery instrumentation."
