MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541133560 A) filed by Dr. Mahalingam, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 30, 2025, for 'a standalone embedded system for real-time poultry weight classification and sorting.'
Inventor(s) include K. Durgalakshmi; Dr. B. Kannapiran; and A. Venkatesh.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This idea of using bird weight for automatic identification and categorization is called a Poultry Grading System. Time is one of the major issues with traditional hand grading, which also stresses the birds and often yields erroneous findings. These problems are eradicated by this approach. By utilizing the system's integrated microcontrollers, poultry can be classified as underweight, market-ready, or overweight. A signal processing circuit and weighing platform are integrated to guarantee precise data collecting. A load cell on the platform allows for accurate weight measurements to be taken in real-time. The hands-free technology sorts the birds into their designated holding pens based on the findings of the categorization process. A potential addition to a future release is a logging module for the Internet of Things (loT). A database, either on-premises or in the cloud, would receive the system's grade and weight data via wireless connection. Even in remote places where internet access is unreliable, edge-based processing guarantees reliable performance for chicken farms. This device provides a simple, affordable, and compassionate way for commercial poultry farms to grade their chicks."
