MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631043239 A) filed by Mr. Basudev Hansdah, Dhanbad, Jharkhand, on April 4, for 'a solution to attend steam condenser tube leakage online.'

Inventor(s) include Mr. Pravin Raut; Mr. Rabi Jeti; Mr. Abhijit Chowdhary; and Mr. Ankit Anand.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention is an online method to attend steam condenser tube leakages in thermal power plants by dosing saw dust through the condenser on-load tube cleaning syatem (COLTCS). This overcomes the limitations of the existing solutions which relies on unit shutdown or half isolation that eventually results in loss of generation. This invention utilizes biodegradable saw dust which when poured into the COLTCS chamber gets mixed with circulating water and travels to leakage points with the virtue of pump's pressure. The fibrous structure of saw dust acts as a sealing of minor to moderate leakages that prohibits circulating water ingress and stabilizing operating parameters of condenser during online operation. By using the existing system, the invention nullifies the need for additional capital investment or permanent modification. The controlled dosing ensures uniform distribution while preventing blockage. Continuous monitoring of condenser vacuum, condensate conductivity, and circulating water parameters ensures safe and reliable operation. This invention serves as an effective interim solution, allowing uninterrupted unit operation until permanent repairs can be carried out during planned scheduled maintenance in opportunity shutdowns. Overall, the technique bids a simple, gainful, and environmentally benign solution for online condenser leakage, reducing forced outages and improving plant performance, thereby signifying strong industrial applicability and inventive value."
