MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631020113 A) filed by Guru Nanak Institute Of Technology, Kolkata, West Bengal, on Feb. 20, for 'a solar powered rechargeable battery operated self cleaning ultrasonic alkaline water purification system.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Soma Mukherjee; Dr. Anup Kumar Thander; and Ms. Dola Saha.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A portable, off-grid water purification system powered by a photovoltaic solar panel with rechargeable battery backup is disclosed. The system includes a modular multi-stage filtration module (for example sediment, activated carbon and membrane stages), an ultrasonic self-cleaning unit that periodically applies ultrasonic vibrations to filtration elements to dislodge sediments, biofilm and scale, and an alkaline mineral enhancement cartridge that replenishes food-grade minerals (such as calcium and magnesium) and raises the pH of treated water. A microcontroller-based power management and control unit regulates charging, power distribution, pump operation and ultrasonic cleaning cycles, which may be scheduled or triggered by sensor feedback. The system is housed in a lightweight, portable enclosure for deployment in rural, disaster-relief and other off-grid settings, offering lower maintenance, extended filter life and improved taste and mineral content of potable water."
