MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641048389 A) filed by Sona College Of Technology, Salem, Tamil Nadu, on April 16, for 'a smart water flow monitoring and leak detection system.'

Inventor(s) include Nidarshana P; Shrinikithaa A; Sangeetha D P; Dr. R. Shivakumar; Dr. G. Ravi; Dr. S. Vijayashaarathi; Sharmila Devi D; and Dr. V. Sudha.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a water flow monitoring and leak detection system for pipelines. The system comprises an inlet flow sensing unit and an outlet flow sensing unit disposed at spaced locations along a pipeline for generating flow signals corresponding to inlet and outlet water flow rates. A control unit receives the flow signals, derives corresponding flow values, and performs a comparative evaluation to identify a leakage state based on a difference between the inlet and outlet flow values relative to a predetermined threshold. An indication unit is operatively coupled to the control unit to display real-time flow information and system status, while an alert unit provides an audible or visual indication of leakage. The system enables real-time monitoring, accurate detection of leakage, and reduced water loss, and is suitable for residential, commercial, and industrial water distribution systems."
