MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641017855 A) filed by K. Avinash Babu, Hyderabad, Telangana, on Feb. 17, for 'a smart sensor-based intelligent driver alertness and fatigue detection system for real-time vehicle safety.'

Inventor(s) include K. Avinash Babu.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Drowsiness in driving causes the major road accidents. Now a day's drowsiness due to drunken driving is increasing. If driver is found to be drowsiness in eyes more than 5 secs, then the eye blink sensor senses the blink rate. If the eyes are found to be closed, then the speed of the car slows down. In our proposed system, along with drowsiness, alcohol detection is also detected by using alcohol MQ3 sensor. If alcohol is detected in driver's breathe, then the car slows down. These sensors are interfaced with Arduino UNO. in case of alcohol detection and buzzer rings in case of drowsiness detection and speed of the car varies on detection of both cases. The majority of traffic accidents are caused by being sleepy. Because there are so many automobiles on the highways every day, it is difficult to manually locate the drowsy driver. Thus, every car must include a device that, if it detects a tired driver, must promptly stop the car. Also, the vehicle will stop if the driver nods off, and an LCD monitor shows the driver's location These three factors are crucial since they reflect the driver's physical condition. Authorities are informed of any accidents with the aid of the GSM module."
