MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641042158 A) filed by Sriraam Vigneshwaran; Senthamizhselvan M; Rohan S; and Dr. G. Elumalai, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 2, for 'a smart medicine box for cold chain monitoring using iot and blockchain.'
Inventor(s) include Sriraam Vigneshwaran; Senthamizhselvan M; Rohan S; and Dr. G. Elumalai.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Described herein is a Smart Medicine Box for cold chain monitoring that integrates Internet of Things (IoT) technology, active Peltier thermoelectric temperature control, and blockchain-based immutable data logging to ensure safe transportation of temperature-sensitive medicines and vaccines. An onboard ESP32 dual-core microcontroller (240 MHz, integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) continuously monitors internal container temperature via dual redundant temperature sensors. When measured temperature deviates beyond the configured threshold range, the Peltier thermoelectric module is automatically activated in cooling or heating mode, implementing closed-loop active temperature regulation without human intervention. Dual GPS modules provide redundant real-time location tracking throughout the transportation route. All sensor data - including temperature readings, GPS coordinates, timestamps, and alert notifications - is validated using CRC-32 error detection, encrypted using AES-256 with ECDH 256-bit key exchange, and transmitted via MQTT protocol over LTE/GSM/Wi-Fi to a cloud server and mobile application. Critical shipment events including temperature violations, custody transfers, and delivery confirmations are recorded on a blockchain ledger in an immutable and tamper- proof manner, providing a cryptographically secured audit trail for regulatory compliance. The mobile application enables real-time monitoring and remote temperature set-point control. The system ensures pharmaceutical GDP compliance, GDPR data security, ISO/IEC 27001 cybersecurity standards, and eliminates the limitations of passive cold chain monitoring by providing proactive, automated temperature management with full supply chain transparency."
