MUMBAI, India, April 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202431078258 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Kharagpur, West Bengal, on Oct. 15, 2024, for 'a single-stage dc to 3-phase ac matrix converter system reduced switching state pwm and step voltage switching to eliminate device voltage spikes.'

Inventor(s) include Ravichandra Maddipudi; and Souvik Chattopadhyay.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a single-stage DC-to-three-phase AC isolated matrix converter system, comprising a full-bridge converter unit on DC side, a transformer assembly of at least two transformers, said transformer assembly is coupled to the full-bridge converter unit to receive transformer voltage in two sequential steps, a matrix converter on AC side configured to generate three-phase AC output based on transformer assembly output and a control unit to implement a reduced switching state modulation on the matrix converter that minimizes number of switching transitions in the matrix converter."
