MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411030551 A) filed by Chairman, Defence Research & Development Organisation; and Council Of Scientific & Industrial Research, New Delhi, on April 16, 2024, for 'a simple cowl device for improved thrust performance of an aerospike nozzle.'
Inventor(s) include Kiran Chutkey; and Shashi Bhushan Verma.
The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present subject matter discloses a ventilated cowl device (302) for increasing the thrust of an aerospike nozzle (102). The ventilated cowl device (302) comprises a cylindrical surface having cross section same as the aerospike nozzle cowl end (110) cross section. The ventilated cowl device (302) further comprises a series of ventilation holes (306) drilled at an equal pitch from one another on the cylindrical surface, where the interaction between the aerospike nozzle jet and freestream flow result in the generation of shocks from the ventilation holes (306) that increase the thrust of the aerospike nozzle (102)."
