MUMBAI, India, June 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202331087139 A) filed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Kolkata, West Bengal, on Dec. 20, 2023, for 'a shell and tube heat exchanger wth tube bundles.'

Inventor(s) include Nirmal Raj Nambirajan; Elamparuthi Manivasagam; Haridasan Mohan; Enanganti Murthunjoy; and Saravana Kumar Ganesan.

The application for the patent was published on June 27, under issue no. 26/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a shell and tube heat exchanger with tube bundles (100). The heat exchanger (100) comprises of a conical shell (1) for gas flow, an outer shell (2), an outlet port (3) for gas outflow, an inlet header (4), a plurality of steam tubes (6) for heat transfer, a plurality of sub-headers (5 & 7) to manage steam flow, and outlet header (8) for collecting heated steam. The gas which is fed through the conical shell (1) and released through the conical shell (3). The steam is fed from the header (4) which feeds the sub-header (5) which in turn feeds the tubes and the steam rises through the tubes (6) and collects in the outlet header (8). The heat exchanger (100) utilizing header offers cost-efficiency by addressing differential expansion, maintains safety, and enhances adaptability to diverse the application."
