MUMBAI, India, Oct. 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421028271 A) filed by Avinash Mahadeo Kadam, Thane, Maharashtra, on April 5, 2024, for 'a sewage treatment system and a method for treating the sewage.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A sewage treatment system (100) includes a housing (102), an inlet (108), a layer of geological material (104), an underdrain layer (106) and an outlet (124). The layer of geological material (104) is preferably partially weathered deccan trap basalt (PWB) for treating the sewage. The underdrain layer (106) is for filtration of the sewage. The sewage is treated either semi-continuously or in batches. The sewage treatment system (100) achieves treatment of sewage with low hydraulic retention time with a high hydraulic loading capacity, does not generate any secondary biological sludge, does not require tertiary treatment and occupies less space."
