MUMBAI, India, April 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202431078206 A) filed by Tata Steel Limited, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on Oct. 15, 2024, for 'a scrap feeding unit for a metallurgical melting vessel.'

Inventor(s) include Abhishek Kumar Jyoti; Dipankar Indra; Sampath Kumar Seshadri; and Rupesh Kumar Singh.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Present disclosure discloses a scrap feeding unit (100) for a metallurgical melting vessel (200). The scrap feeding unit (100) includes a frame (2) and a first conveyor (4) disposed on the frame (2) and structured to receive scrap from a source. The scrap feeding unit (100) further includes a second conveyor (6) disposed on the frame (2) adjacent to the first conveyor (4) and is structured to receive the scrap from the first conveyor (4). Furthermore, the scrap feeding unit (100) includes a chamber (12) defined with a first end (14) and a second end (16). The first end is coupled to the second conveyor (6). The second end is removably coupled to an opening of the metallurgical melting vessel (200). The chamber (12) is structured to receive the scrap from the second conveyor (6) through the first end and selectively discharge the scrap into the metallurgical melting vessel (200) through the second end in one of a continuous mode and a batch mode."
