MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541125322 A) filed by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kollam, Kerala, on Dec. 11, 2025, for 'a safety armour system for heavy-duty vehicles.'
Inventor(s) include Nr, Pravitha; and Puthur, Anson.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a safety armour system (100) for vehicles, to prevent underride of smaller colliding vehicles and absorb collision energy. The system (100) includes a crossbar (102) positioned at a height relative to ground to block underride, telescopic cylinders (104) each having a first end (106) connected to crossbar (102) and a second end (108) connected to blocks (110) fixed to vehicle chassis (112). Pressure release valves are integrated within telescopic cylinders (104) to control rate of compression during impact. The crossbar (102), telescopic cylinders (104), blocks (110), and pressure release valves are mechanically and functionally connected to transfer collision forces to telescopic cylinders (104), which compress and dissipate energy through regulated fluid or air discharge. The system (100) can be mounted at front, rear, or side portions of vehicle, providing modular adaptability and enhanced occupant safety while mitigating collision severity."
