MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541124057 A) filed by Ms. M. Priyachitra; Ms. L. Sindhuja; Ms. P. Priyadharsini; and S. A. Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 9, 2025, for 'a real-time face recognition using smart attendance system.'

Inventor(s) include Ms. M. Priyachitra; Ms. L. Sindhuja; and Ms. P. Priyadharsini.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The WiFi Classroom Attendance System is an innovative and automated solution aimed at transforming the traditional process of student attendance management in educational institutions. Conventional methods, such as manual registers, biometric scanners, RFID cards, or QR code-based systems, are often time-consuming, prone to human errors, and costly to implement and maintain, particularly in large classrooms or lecture halls. Manual attendance consumes valuable class time and can lead to inaccurate records, while biometric and RFID systems require additional hardware, maintenance, and administrative oversight. The proposed system addresses these challenges by leveraging existing Wi-Fi networks and Android devices to automate the detection and recording of student attendance in real time. The system is composed of two Android applications: a student app and a teacher app. The student application automatically broadcasts the presence of the device when connected to the verified classroom Wi-Fi network, while the teacher application receives these signals using UDP socket programming, validates student identities, and records attendance in a local SQLite database. Attendance records are securely stored and can be exported in CSV format for reporting, analysis, and archival purposes. The design supports multiple students simultaneously, enabling scalability for large classrooms without affecting system performance. Furthermore, the system ensures secure verification by recording attendance only when devices are connected to the authorized Wi-Fi network and domain. This WiFi Classroom Attendance System provides a user-friendly interface for both teachers and students, facilitating effortless session management, real-time monitoring, and instant report generation. By combining mobile applications with network-based detection, it significantly reduces administrative workload, eliminates human errors, improves accuracy, and enhances classroom management. Its lightweight, cost-effective, and scalable design makes it an ideal solution for modern educational environments, ensuring reliable and efficient attendance tracking while providing a practical and automated alternative to traditional methods."
