MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621042070 A) filed by Dr. Vishwanath Karad Mit World Peace University, Pune, Maharashtra, on April 1, for 'a radiation- curable biobased low voc coating compostion and a process thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Vasi Ahmed Ebrahim Shaikh; and Nana Khandu Satpute.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a radiation-curable biobased coating composition and a process for preparing the same. The coating composition comprises a biobased unsaturated polyester resin formed from an epoxidized vegetable oil component, a polyol component, and a biobased unsaturated dicarboxylic acid component in a molar ratio of 1 : 1 : 1 to 1 : 1.9 : 1, wherein the polyol component contains 70 to 99.5 wt% renewable content and the resin in an amount of 65 to 99 wt% of total coating composition. The composition further comprises 1 to 5 wt% of at least one radical photoinitiator, 3 to 10 wt% of diluent. The total renewable content is 70 to 99.50 wt% and total solid content is 80 to 90 wt%. The process involves ring-opening reaction of the epoxidized vegetable oil with the polyol followed by polyesterification with the unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, and subsequent blending to obtain a UV-curable coating."
