MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621003711 A) filed by Vishwakarma Institute Of Technology, Pune, Maharashtra, on Jan. 14, for 'a quick release passenger footrest for scooter.'
Inventor(s) include Khandare, Vedant; Patil, Tanmay; Koul, Sushant; Khobragade, Anshul; Rathod, Praveen Pomu; and Dhumal, Amol Radhakisan.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a quick-release passenger footrest for scooters, designed to improve comfort, safety, and convenience compared to conventional footrests. The footrest comprises a footrest body pivotally connected to the scooter frame at a pivot point, a quick-release mechanism for effortless deployment and retraction, and a modular attachment system that allows customization and replacement to accommodate passengers with varying foot sizes. The footrest's end features a convex-shaped section in the form of an ellipse or rounded rectangle, serving as a natural leverage point for easy engagement. A roughened surface on the shaped end ensures reliable grip, even when the passenger's footwear provides insufficient traction. The quick-release mechanism, which may be spring-loaded or latch-based, enables smooth movement between stowed and deployed positions. The combination of the shaped end, textured surface, quick-release system, and modular design significantly enhances passenger safety, comfort, and usability, providing a practical alternative to conventional scooter footrests."
