MUMBAI, India, July 25 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202431003660 A) filed by Tata Steel Limited, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on Jan. 18, 2024, for 'a quench and partitioned steel sheet and a method of manufacturing thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Amaresh Mahapatra; Ravi Ranjan; Chiradeep Ghosh; and Monojit Dutta.
The application for the patent was published on July 25, under issue no. 30/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure discloses a method for manufacturing a quench and partitioned steel sheet. The method includes casting steel slab of desired composition, heating the steel slab to first predetermined temperature for first predetermined time and subjecting the steel slab to first hot working process, thereafter subjecting to the second hot working process at second predetermined temperature and time period and form steel sheet. Further the method includes cold working to further reduce thickness of the steel sheet and heat treat it. Furthermore, heating the steel sheet to third predetermined temperature for third predetermined time. Quenching the steel sheet to fourth predetermined temperature for fourth predetermined time. Additionally, the method includes partitioning the steel sheet at fifth predetermined temperature for fifth predetermined time and cool to room temperature to obtain the quench and partitioned steel sheet. The quench and partitioned steel sheet reveals microstructure comprising retained austenite, bainite and martensite."
