MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641041597 A) filed by Christ University, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on April 1, for 'a qualitative modelling framework for generating unified institutional model for individuals with intellectual disabilites.'
Inventor(s) include Sijo Jose C; Deepa VK.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Institutions which support individuals with intellectual disabilities in India work in various areas focuses on specific needs like early intervention, education, therapy, or academics. Even though these services often work separately and do not stay strongly connected, individuals with intellectual disabilities do not always receive continuous or well-coordinated support. This lack of integration leads to gap, discontinuity and limited long-term outcomes. So, there is an urgent need for one hybrid framework that brings together the strengths of all these institutions and guides how they are designed and improved. This invention introduces a Qualitative Triangular Pyramid Modelling Framework to generate a unified institutional model for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The framework has three sets of variables, where independent variables include policy-regulation, funding support, and resource provision. Mediating variables include administration from the institutional head, service delivery from special educators and therapists, and engagement from family members of individuals. Dependent variables focus on individual development and empowerment, which is the main outcome of this model. The framework follows an apex-channel-cause logic. It identifies government-level factors at the apex, moves them through institutional structure with the collective effort of special educators and therapists from institution and family members as the channel, and it aims to achieve development and empowerment for individuals with intellectual disabilities as the cause. The triangular pyramid structure makes the model stable, inclusive, and adaptable to different institutional settings. Overall, this invention provides a new and generalizable way to build an institutional model and provide holistic outcomes."
