MUMBAI, India, Aug. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441007827 A) filed by Kothari Sugars And Chemicals Ltd., Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 5, 2024, for 'a process of sustainable green synthesis of carbon quantum dots from sugarcane bagasse and product thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Mr. Akash Kumar; Mr. Mohamed Killebbai Meeran; Dr. Albin John Puthussery Paul Winston; Mr. Arjun Bhadrashyam Kothari; Mr. Silvester Goldwin Mariathangam; Dr. John Judith Vijaya; Dr. Pappu Sagayaraj; Dr. Joseph Madhavan; and Dr. Savariappan Amala Jayanthi.

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 8, under issue no. 32/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a process of sustainable green synthesis of carbon quantum dots from sugarcane bagasse. The process of the present invention comprises of following steps; a. dissolving Polyethylene Glycol 4000 in milli Q water followed by adding sugarcane bagasse powder to form a solution; b. Subjecting the solution to hydrothermal treatment followed by filtration and dialysis to obtain carbon quantum dots. The present invention also discloses a carbon quantum dots prepared by the process as described above."
