MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541133896 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education and Research; and Meenakshi Ammal Dental College And Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 30, 2025, for 'a process of preparation of root canal irrigant formulation for biofilm disruption.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Sooriaprakas Chandrasekaran; Dr. Gopikaraj V; Dr. D. Nalluswamy; and Dr. Arunagirinathan.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a process of preparation of root canal irrigant formulation for biofilm disruption comprises of a. dispersing Thanga Bhasma in distilled water under magnetic stirring, subjecting to probe sonication and cooling to obtain Thanga Bhasma suspension; b. collecting Syzygium aromaticum, washing, shade drying and grinding to form fine powder followed by dissolving in ethanol, incubating, filtering and concentrating to form Syzygium aromaticum extract; c. collecting Azadirachta indica, washing, shade drying and grinding to form fine powder followed by dissolving in ethanol, incubating, filtering and concentrating to form Azadirachta indica extract; d. mixing Syzygium aromaticum extract, and Azadirachta indica extract with Thanga Bhasma dispersion under stirring and adjusting the pH using sodium hydroxide to form active ingredient solution followed by adding polyethylene glycol and phenoxyethanol under stirring to form a mixture followed by pre-filtering and filtering through an appropriate membrane filter to form a root canal irrigant."
