MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641025218 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education And Research; and Meenakshi Ammal Dental College And Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on March 3, for 'a process of preparation of plant based root canal irrigant composition and product thereof.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a process for preparing a root canal irrigant composition for endodontic disinfection comprising the steps of: a. extracting dried and powdered Andrographis paniculata leaves with ethanol under reflux, followed by filtration and evaporation to obtain a Andrographis paniculata leaf extract; b. adding sodium borohydride to aqueous silver nitrate solution under continuous stirring, to form silver nanoparticles suspension with an average particle size; c. mixing the Andrographis paniculata leaf extract with the silver nanoparticle suspension together with chitosan solution as a stabilizer and EDTA solution as a chelating agent, and homogenizing and adjusting pH to form a root canal irrigant composition. The present invention also discloses a root canal irrigant composition for endodontic disinfection, prepared by the process as described above."
