MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541133867 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education and Research; and Meenakshi Ammal Dental College And Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 30, 2025, for 'a process of preparation of herbal root canal irrigant formulation for endodontic disinfection.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Sooriaprakas Chandrasekaran; Dr. Gopikaraj V; Dr. D. Nalluswamy; and Dr. Arunagirinathan.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a process of preparation of herbal root canal irrigant formulation for endodontic disinfection comprises of a. dispersing Thanga Bhasma in distilled water under magnetic stirring, subjecting to probe sonication and cooling to obtain a Thanga Bhasma suspension; b. collecting Chrysopogon zizanioides root, washing, shade drying and grinding to form fine powder followed by dissolving in ethanol, incubating, filtering and concentrating to form Chrysopogon zizanioides extract; c. collecting Curcuma longa rhizome, washing, shade drying and grinding to form fine powder followed by dissolving in ethanol, incubating, filtering and concentrating to form Curcuma longa extract; d. mixing Curcuma longa extract, Chrysopogon zizanioides extract and Thanga Bhasma suspension into phosphate buffered saline under agitation to form an active ingredient solution at appropriate pH and subjecting to ultrasonic homogenization to form homogenous mixture, pre-filtering and filtering through an appropriate membrane filter to form an herbal root canal irrigant formulation."
