MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541133895 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education and Research; and Meenakshi Ammal Dental College And Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 30, 2025, for 'a process of preparation of herbal root canal irrigant formulation for biocompatible disinfection.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Sooriaprakas Chandrasekaran; Dr. Gopikaraj V; Dr. D. Nalluswamy; and Dr. Arunagirinathan.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a process of preparation of herbal root canal irrigant formulation for biocompatible disinfection comprises of a. dispersing Thanga Bhasma in distilled water under magnetic stirring, subjecting to probe sonication and cooling in an ice bath to obtain a Thanga Bhasma suspension; b. collecting Aloe barbadensis miller leaves, removing the gel, washing and filtering to obtain pure aloe vera gel followed by adding to Thanga Bhasma suspension under stirring to obtain a mixture; c. dissolving chitosan in acetic acid under stirring and filtering to form a chitosan solution; d. dissolving curcumin in ethanol under stirring to form a curcumin solution followed by adding dropwise into chitosan solution under stirring, probe sonication and concentrating to form curcumin nanoformulation; e. adding curcumin nanoformulation into the mixture and ultrasonication to form homogeneous dispersion and adjusting the pH using NaOH, pre-filtrating and sterile filtering to obtain herbal root canal irrigant."
