MUMBAI, India, April 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441028461 A) filed by Ingex Botanicals Private Limited, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on Oct. 6, 2024, for 'a process of preparation of a plant protein extract from mucuna pruriens.'
Inventor(s) include Cheppattu Mohammed Abdullah Anzar; Molath Varkey Joseph; Padmanabhan Chettayil Prasad; Mohamed Faizal; Ramachandran Sundaram; Aluri Sri Lakshmi; Bharadwaj Gururaj Vadiraj; Earanimose Bineesh; and Benny Neethumol.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A process of preparation of a plant protein extract from Mucuna pruriens is disclosed in this present invention, wherein the said process comprises the steps of pre-processing the seeds through washing in hot water, dehulling, pulverizing, and then subjected to extraction of the protein from Mucuna pruriens with a water alkali mixture of 28% liquid ammonia or 10% KOH solution along under controlled experimental parameters. The process(es) disclosed herein rely upon ultrafiltration through a 1kDA to 20 kDa membrane, precipitating the concentrated protein, neutralization, and then followed by drying and post drying processing techniques to obtain the desired particle size and purity of the Mucuna pruriens protein."
