MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122868 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education And Research; and Meenakshi Ammal Dental College And Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'a process of preparation of a bioactive nanocomposite hydrogel dressing for management of oral cyst.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Geetha Sridharan; and Dr. Sunkara Hiranmayi.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a process of preparation of a bioactive nanocomposite hydrogel dressing for effective management of oral cysts. The method comprises extracting phytoconstituents from dried clove powder using ethanolic extraction to obtain concentrated clove extract. Chitosan is dissolved in an aqueous citric-acid medium to form chitosan solution, while sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) is dissolved in deionized water to form TPP solution. The clove extract is incorporated into the chitosan solution, followed by ionic crosslinking with TPP to form clove-loaded chitosan nanoparticles, which are purified and resuspended in phosphate buffer saline to form nanoparticle suspension. Separately, quercetin and gelatin are dissolved in deionized water to obtain pre-gel solution, which is crosslinked using genipin to form biocompatible hydrogel matrix. The nanoparticle suspension is then mixed with hydrogel matrix to form nanocomposite hydrogel, cast into conformable sheet, allowed to stabilize and laminated with medical-grade polyurethane film to obtain bioactive hydrogel dressing."
