MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521119172 A) filed by Dr. Mangesh Balasaheb Hole; Miss Sanika Santosh Salunke; Mr. Sujit Tukaram Tambe; Dr. Santosh Dattatraya Ghule; and Mr. Ajay Ashok Bhagwat, Pune, Maharashtra, on Nov. 28, 2025, for 'a process for the preparation of biodegradable plastic film from banana pseudostem, banana peel and corn waste and the biodegradable plastic film thereof.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A low-cost, 100% bio-based biodegradable plastic film is prepared from banana pseudostem cellulose, banana peel powder and corn waste starch using glycerol as plasticizer via simple solution casting. The film exhibits tensile strength 20-38 MPa, elongation 20-55% and biodegrades 80% within 60 days in soil, providing an eco-friendly alternative to petroleum-based plastics while valorising agricultural waste."
