MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641007477 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 26, for 'a process for simultaneous extraction of carotenoids and pectin from fruit peel biomass.'
Inventor(s) include Dr Jeevitha G C; Saravanan R; and Arya K.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a process (100) for simultaneous extraction of carotenoids and pectin from fruit peel biomass. The process comprises contacting the fruit peel biomass with a dual-phase solvent system including a hydrophobic eutectic solvent and a hydrophilic eutectic solvent, followed by energy-assisted extraction using ultrasound and microwave treatment. The extraction results in selective partitioning of carotenoids into the hydrophobic phase and pectin into the hydrophilic phase, enabling concurrent recovery of both compounds from the same biomass. Phase separation is achieved by centrifugation, followed by isolation of carotenoids and pectin from their respective phases. The process provides an integrated and efficient approach for valorisation of fruit peel biomass."
