MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521133864 A) filed by Mit Art, Design And Technology University, Pune, Maharashtra, on Dec. 30, 2025, for 'a process for producing sorghum-based vegan flavoured milk with improved stability and sensory acceptability.'

Inventor(s) include Abhijeet Balasaheb Kothimbire; and Dr. Kavita Amol Mane.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a method (100) for producing a sorghum-based vegan flavoured milk and a corresponding composition (200). The method (100) comprises cleaning and washing (102) whole sorghum grains, soaking (104) the washed grains in water containing sodium bicarbonate to reduce off-flavour precursors and anti-nutritional factors, grinding (106) the soaked grains with water to form a slurry, filtering (108) the slurry to obtain extracted sorghum milk, adding (110) sugar and at least one food-grade flavour, and subjecting (112) the flavoured sorghum milk to thermal treatment. The method yields a lactose-free and cholesterol-free vegan milk with improved extraction yield, reduced sedimentation and enhanced sensory acceptability, without stabilizers or emulsifiers. The resulting composition (200) comprises sorghum milk (202), sugar (204) and flavour (206), and exhibits physicochemical stability, nutritional functionality and consumer acceptability suitable for clean-label plant-based beverage applications."
