MUMBAI, India, Nov. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411025097 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, New Delhi, on March 28, 2024, for 'a process for mass production of shikimic acid.'
Inventor(s) include Srivastava, Ashok Kumar; and Anjum, Rabab.
The application for the patent was published on Nov. 7, under issue no. 45/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses the process for mass production of shikimic acid from plant cell cultivation involves cultivating the specific cells in a controlled environment using bioreactor, optimizing the nutrient mixture, growth conditions, and introducing certain elicitors and precursors to develop an appropriate medium for suspension culture. The process was then scaled up from a 3-liter to a 100-liter bioreactor to demonstrate its feasibility for commercial large-scale production, achieving a biomass concentration of up to 13.93 1.03g/L and shikimic acid accumulation of up to 658.89 4.8mg/L."
