MUMBAI, India, April 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411071628 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research, New Delhi, on Sept. 20, 2024, for 'a proceess for the preparation of struvite composites from the combined waste streams of tannery, ro reject /sea water and slaughterhouse wastes/anaerobic digestate.'
Inventor(s) include Maharaja Pounsamy; Athithyan Ilangovan; Sri Bala Kameswari Kancinadham; and Thirumaran Krishnasami.
The application for the patent was published on April 10, under issue no. 15/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A Process for The Preparation of Struvite Composites from the combined waste streams of Tannery, RO reject /sea water and slaughterhouse wastes/anaerobic digestate Disclosed herein is a process for the preparation ofstruvite composites by combining different waste streams such as tannery waste water comprising ammoniacal nitrogen with RO/sea water comprising Mg salt rich and slaughter/anaerobic digestate comprising Phosphate salt rich in a stipulated ratio under specified conditions and subsequent separation. The process can be applied to nutrient rich waste streams that are being generated from tanneries and other industries like Agro-food, Meat, Food processing etc. The resulting struvite is a rich source of nutrients and can be used as fertilizer for the agriculture / horticulturepurposes. Thus, an ecofriendly method for treatment of industrial wastewater is provided, whereby nutrient rich value-added product is produced."
