MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511124766 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Dec. 10, 2025, for 'a polymer nanofibrous bacterial culture mat and its method of preparation.'
Inventor(s) include Yogesh RG Singh; Madhuparna Mukherjee; Gaurav Chauhan; and Dr. Prabhat Kumar Dwivedi.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The Invention provides a novel synthesis approach to fabricate a dry and ready to use nanofiber mat for culturing the bacterial samples. This nanofiber-based culture mat can be sealed in a sterile packaging and can be activated by exposing to specific temperature and humidity before incubating it with bacterial suspension, like biological fluid e.g. saliva, urine, blood etc. as the sample for analysis. The nanofiber mats show bacterial culture activity like traditional agar plating and moreover the mats can be used to culture both gram negative or positive bacterium selectively by tuning the culture media infused in the mat during its fabrication."
