MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631044674 A) filed by Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Institute Of Technology And Sports Complex, Kolkata, West Bengal, on April 8, for 'a novel rain shield smart interlocking system.'

Inventor(s) include Pritam Samanta; Sushovan Chandra; Omar Faruk Molla; Barsha Maity; Susmita Bhaskar; Sourav Kumar; Anirban Neogi; Arindam Sadhu; and Pradipta Maiti.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention provides an automated, smart interlocking rain shield system designed for the autonomous protection of open-air spaces. The system integrates a sensing array comprising rain and light-level detectors to identify the transition from clear to precipitative weather conditions. Upon detection, a motorized assembly deploys a protective shield across the target area. A critical feature of the invention is the mechanical interlocking mechanism that engages at the terminal point of deployment, providing structural rigidity and wind resistance. The system further includes an automatic stop feature that deactivates the motor once the mechanical lock is secured, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing mechanical wear. This invention is particularly applicable to industrial loading bays, domestic balconies, and commercial outdoor spaces, offering a low-cost, high-reliability solution for weather mitigation."
