MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641048891 A) filed by Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on April 17, for 'a novel process for the preparation of stable squid visceral paste from squid processing waste.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. B. Sivaraman; Dr. R. Shalini; Dr. U. Arisekar; Dr. N. Felix; and K. Ponsangeetha.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a novel enzymatic process for converting squid processing waste into a nutritionally rich and shelf-stable squid visceral paste. The process involves controlled enzymatic hydrolysis using papain, followed by enzyme inactivation, moisture reduction, acidification, and preservation. The resulting squid visceral paste is rich in protein, essential amino acids, and omega-3 fatty acids, and exhibits storage stability for up to six months at ambient temperature, making it suitable for use in aquaculture and animal feed applications."
