MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641061857 A) filed by KKR & KSR Institute of Technology and Sciences, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, on May 15, for 'a novel iot and machine learning based automatic waste segregator.'
Inventor(s) include S Padma Priya; Dr. Chittineni Aruna; Koye Harshitha; Kotapati Bhargavi; and Dr. K. Mallikarjuna Rao.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The smart waste segregation system is proposed to address the growing challenge of inefficient manual waste sorting by automating the identification and separation of different waste types in real time. This invention integrates advanced sensing technology with intelligent control mechanisms to accurately categorize waste into organic, plastic, metal, and general categories without human intervention. By combining an ESP32 microcontroller with specialized sensors and actuators, the system achieves high accuracy in waste detection and segregation while enabling remote monitoring through a connected mobile application and cloud platform. The proposed system not only reduces the time and labor involved in waste management but also promotes better recycling practices by minimizing contamination between waste types. Experimental results demonstrate improved segregation accuracy and fill-level monitoring, making it a practical solution for modern smart cities and sustainable waste management."
