According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "India has emerged as a surprising contender in the global race to develop state-of-the-art Large Language Models (LLMs). Even though international AI leaders were initially skeptical, Indian businesses-from start-ups to industry giants-are now making significant progress in creating native LLMs that are suited to the linguistic and cultural diversity of the country. Countries are competing to develop their own domestic AI capabilities in a global AI race spurred by the rapid advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) like OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Llama. India may gain from creating its own LLM for a number of strong reasons that cut across the fields of technology, language, politics, economics, and society. These possible advantages include economic opportunities, technological sovereignty, linguistic nuance, and design tailored for Indian use cases."
