MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311085243 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Dec. 13, 2023, for 'a novel formulation for the treatment of melanoma and process thereoff.'

Inventor(s) include Pankaj Verma; Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sahu; Dr. Manish Vyas; Isha Agrawal; and Dr. Pranav Kumar Prabhakar.

The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention is a novel formulation for the treatment of melanoma. Melanoma is a type of cancer that starts in the melanocytes and is also referred to as cutaneous melanoma, malignant melanoma, and other names. Melanoma is the fifth most common cancer among women. The process includes studying of phytochemicals through docketing studies (101); identifying the lowest energy compounds (102); isolating the phytochemical from plant extract (103) and making final formulation (104). The said process is industrially scalable and cost effective."
