MUMBAI, India, May 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311080690 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Nov. 28, 2023, for 'a novel composition of self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (snedds).'
Inventor(s) include Simranjot Kaur; Dr. Narendra Kumar Pandey; Dr. Sachin Kumar Singh; Dr. Bimlesh Kumar; Dr. Umesh Gautam; Dr. Harpreet Kaur; Dr. Dileep Singh Baghel; Dr. Kalvatala Sudhakar; and Dr. Saurabh Singh.
The application for the patent was published on May 30, under issue no. 22/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention contains a drug which is highly lipophilic and gastrointestinal (GI) labile drug, it undergoes extensive first pass metabolism and enzymatic degradation in the GIT upon its oral administration, and the remaining non-degraded drug could not get solubilized in the GIT medium. The ultimately causes overall decrease in oral bioavailability and thereby its therapeutic efficacy. SNEDDS are known for their dual action i.e., increasing the drug's solubility as well as protection in the GIT. Selection of drug is done as per the solubility (101) and then mixing of oils is done (102) as per the formulations to be made, addition of surfactant and co-surfactants (103) as per the combinations and permutations and finally isolation of the final formulation in the form of SNEDDS (104). The final formulation is subjected to stability studies as per ICH guidelines. The said process is industrially scalable and cost effective."
