MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621005532 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Maharashtra, on Jan. 20, for 'a multiphase heterostructured electrocatalyst, its method of preparation and uses thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Dutta, Arnab; and Biswas, Rathindranath.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a multiphase heterostructured electrocatalyst (10) for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and to methods for their preparation. Specifically, it concerns metal-complex assisted surface reconstruction of manganese oxide nanorods into multi-component sulfide/oxide/metal heterostructures that exhibit high HER activity and durability across acidic, neutral, and alkaline media, and their use in water electrolysis devices. The composite requires a significantly lower overpotential, exhibits smaller Tafel slopes, higher electrochemically active surface area, and lower charge-transfer resistance, and maintains Faradaic efficiency above 98% with excellent long-term stability."
