MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511115483 A) filed by Nims University, Jaipur, Rajasthan, on Nov. 22, 2025, for 'a multi-sensing sanitary pad.'

Inventor(s) include Vaibhav Tamrakar; Akshat Pratap Singh; and Gayatri Panday.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A multi-sensing sanitary pad (101) for women's hygiene, designed to detect vaginal health markers during menses. The pad (101) has an absorbent body (102) consisting of a liquid-permeable top sheet (102a), an absorbent core (102b), and a liquid-impermeable back sheet (102c). An odour-sensing patch (103) is incorporated in the absorbent body (102), said patch consisting of a first substrate (103a), a reagent layer (103b having indicator chemical (103c) that reacts to predetermined odorous-associated volatile compounds (103d), and a liquid-resistant, vapor-permeable membrane (103e). A pH indicator strip (104) is also incorporated, consisting of a second substrate (104a) and one or more pH-sensitive dyes (104b) that react to menstrual fluid to give a visually observable colour change. The design enables odour and pH changes to be visualized by the user, allowing non-invasive, discreet, and real-time visualization of vaginal environment changes for improved personal hygiene awareness and early indication of health."
