MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611050680 A) filed by Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on April 21, for 'a multi-layered self-adaptive closed-loop smart ophthalmic therapeutic system with ai-based biosensing and targeted drug delivery.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Nidhi Dhama; and Dr. Aadesh Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a multi-layered, self-adaptive, closed-loop smart ophthalmic therapeutic system implemented as a wearable contact lens for real-time monitoring and treatment of ocular conditions. The system integrates hybrid multi-modal biosensors configured to continuously detect tear fluid biomarkers including pH, inflammatory mediators, enzymatic activity, and pathogen-specific indicators. An embedded artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) processing unit analyzes the acquired data to classify ocular conditions and determine severity levels. Based on the analysis, a stimuli-responsive drug delivery unit comprising micro-reservoirs and microfluidic channels autonomously releases therapeutic agents in a controlled and targeted manner. The system operates in a closed-loop configuration, enabling continuous sensing, analysis, and adaptive therapeutic actuation."
