MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511105376 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Jodhpur; and All India Institute Of Medical Sciences Jodhpur, Jodhpur, Rajasthan, on Oct. 31, 2025, for 'a multi-functional retracting device for intraoral procedures and method thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Ashwin C R; Dr. Bhivraj Suthar; Dr. Ankita Chugh; and Dr. Amit Goyal.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Intraoral surgical procedures involve operations within the mouth to treat issues related to the teeth, gums, jaw, and throat. Instruments such as retractors, suction devices, and irrigation systems are essential for these surgeries, helping to enhance precision, safety, and efficiency. However, during dental and throat surgeries, surgeons often rely on assistants to manage suction and irrigation, while either the surgeon or the assistant must continuously hold the retractor to keep tissues, bones, or organs like the tongue out of the way. This prolonged manual effort can cause hand fatigue and ergonomic strain, affecting surgical accuracy. This present invention provides a multifunctional retractor designed for intraoral procedures, integrating retraction, suction, irrigation, and an integrated light source to illuminate the surgical site. This solution aims to ease the physical strain on surgeons, improve procedural comfort, eliminate the need for a medical assistant, and reduce overall operational costs."
