MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421104809 A) filed by Brise Chemicals Private Limited, Pune, Maharashtra, on Dec. 31, 2024, for 'a modular bipolar plate for alkaline electrolysis and process of manufacturing thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Suhas Ramdas Sope.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a modular bipolar plate assembly (100) for alkaline electrolysis and a method for manufacturing the same. The assembly comprises a metallic separator plate (105) having hydroformed variable-depth flow fields arranged in a hexagonal close-packed array, a thermally conductive dielectric frame (104) form-locked thereto. The dielectric frame (104) comprises either a rubber matrix (104a) or polyurethane resin matrix with ceramic fillers dispersed therein, said fillers having Mohs hardness 6-9 and median particle size 1-50 m. The frame incorporates sealing serrations (110) on its periphery and angularly offset electrolyte ports (106,107) for independent anode/cathode fluid management. Separate catalytic electrodes include an anode comprising a nickel mesh substrate coated with phosphate-intercalated NiFe layered double hydroxide, a cathode comprising a micro-textured nickel substrate. The manufacturing method includes hydroforming, annealing, injection molding with flow through plate serrations, separate electrode fabrication, enabling improved thermal management, electrode replaceability and enhanced electrochemical performance."
