MUMBAI, India, Sept. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441011956 A) filed by Kristu Jayanti College, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on Feb. 21, 2024, for 'a microbial kit for inducing bio-degradation of plastic in the soil.'
Inventor(s) include Ms. Kushbu R; Dr. Madhu Malleshappa; and Dr. Elcey C. D.
The application for the patent was published on Sept. 5, under issue no. 36/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A microbial kit encompasses a synergistic consortium of micro-organisms capable of efficiently degrading plastic particles as small as 40 microns. This consortium, composed of bacteria, fungi, and actinomycetes, is meticulously crafted to synergistically collaborate in the degradation process, targeting a diverse spectrum of plastic materials. The kit further incorporates macronutrients (Boron, Chloride, Copper, etc.) and micronutrients (Nitrogen, Phosphorous, etc.) to bolster micro-organism growth. A nutrient broth with specific components maintains pH and temperature, enhancing microbial performance. With eco-friendly, user-friendly, and versatile attributes, the kit promotes both plastic degradation and soil enrichment, fostering a sustainable environmental approach."
