MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122857 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education and Research; Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'a method of preparing a bioactive nanohydrogel composite scaffold for the prevention of osteoradionecrosis in irradiated maxillofacial bone.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. V. Poongodi.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a method of preparing a bioactive nano hydrogel composite scaffold for prevention of osteoradionecrosis in irradiated maxillofacial bone comprising: a. dissolving chitosan and gelatin in acetic acid, followed by neutralization with NaOH to obtain a matrix and dispersing nano hydroxyapatite particles under ultrasonication to form an osteogenic mixture; b. adding cerium oxide nanoparticles and resveratrol or curcumin to osteogenic mixture with stirring to form an antioxidant mixture followed by introducing VEGF mimetic peptide and homogenizing to form an angiogenic mixture followed by adding silver nanoparticles and subjecting to ionic crosslinking with sodium tripolyphosphate to form a hydrogel; c. dissolving PCL and gelatin in a formic acid:acetic acid solvent mixture, filtering and degassing followed by electrospinning, and crosslinking the collected mat with glutaraldehyde vapor, aeration and drying to form electrospun PCL/gelatin nanofibers and embedding into hydrogel followed by cooling to obtain an injectable or moldable nano hydrogel composite scaffold."
