MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411027571 A) filed by Amity University, Manesar, Haryana, on April 3, 2024, for 'a method for synthesis of catalytic heterogeneous catalyst for production of biodiesel.'
Inventor(s) include Indu Shekhar Thakur; Annu Khatri; and Manan Kaur Ghai.
The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention describes an efficient method for synthesis of catalytic heterogeneous catalyst for production of biodiesel. The present invention relates to systems and methods to exploited high efficiency and low cost and stable sewage sludge based biochar catalyst, impregnated with different materials followed by lipase immobilisation, for the transesterification reaction of lipid. Three different catalysts (enzyme immobilised activated heterogeneous catalyst with methanol, activated heterogeneous catalyst with methanol, methanol and H2SO4) were used, in order to evaluate their transesterification efficiency. The highest FAMEs yield was observed in case of trans esterified by enzyme immobilized activated heterogeneous catalyst with methanol (99%), followed by activated heterogeneous catalyst with methanol (96%), methanol and H2SO4 (82%). The study also demonstrates the application of lipase in biodiesel production from sewage sludge and shows that immobilization of lipase on activated biochar and calcite particles enhances its stability thereby facilitating its reusability."
