MUMBAI, India, March 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202431068398 A) filed by Tata Steel Limited, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on Sept. 10, 2024, for 'a method for reducing fluoride in industrial water-cooling systems.'

Inventor(s) include Mriganka Das; Pratik Swarup Dash; Md. Naushad Alam; Gaurav Kumar; Anant Kumar Srivastava; and Smruti Ranjan Parida.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a method for reducing the fluoride content of water. The method employs acidified alumina hydrate for reducing the fluoride content, polyacrylamide for flocculation, and lime with sodium bicarbonate for pH adjustment. When the method is performed in the backwash thickener tank of a continuous caster water recycling system, it significantly lowers the fluoride levels 10 and reduces freshwater water blowdown of the system."
