MUMBAI, India, March 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441067490 A) filed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bangalore, Karnataka, on Sept. 6, 2024, for 'a method for programmable blockage detection of pitot system.'

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method & apparatus for an aircraft for blockage detection of Pilot System and optimisation of performance, the survivability of an aircraft is improved by automated blockage detection and optimization system . [200], upon formation of blockage due to temporary ice deposit or permanent blockage due to contamination in safety critical items like Pilot static probe (901] and total temperature probe (902], automatically detects and takes remedial action including automatic heating ON till free air flow in Air,Pulsating heater ON/OFF in as per weather condition, optimization in operation of heater as per availability of aircraft power and warning display for permanent and temporary blockage indication to Pilot constructed in accordance with the teachings of the present invention in case of complete power failure in an emergency condition."
